to you – to me

to you
it meant absolutely nothing
not exactly a petulant void
nor an empty table
perhaps a vacant chair
where you once enthroned your ass
your narrow world disturbed
by a blinking light
would have been annoying
except that it was something to count
you misunderstood my love of prime numbers
missing entirely the elegance of infinitude
calling me a fanatical star counter
when in reality it is the soft distance
between the stars
my most dark and absolute fascination
a spirit of the on and on and on
that means everything
endlessly cold
to me

Toward Home

Will you listen
If I lay flat
on your horizon
when the sun dawns
a pinkish reddish hum
In the distance
I lay still, ignited
rolling full under
the flames of morning
pressed against earth
where your eyes are set to see
greater things than me
in the shadows of mountains
distant trees
my rising is what you’ve missed
what was true and good
about the breaking day
when the first light
lifted my dark blanket
to the sounds of a piano
and perhaps a flute
violins were worrying
about the thunderous timpani
a crash of cymbals
as a choir sang
Sogno Di Volare*
Did you hear – no
I was but a silent silhouette
you thought I had been dreaming
now the sun is up
for you the moment is gone
you’ve missed my revelation
and lost me as I follow the sun
toward home.

Sogno Di Volare was written by Christopher Tin
the piece is also called The Dream of Flight and the lyrics are based on the writings of Leonardo da Vinci.
It is the main theme from the strategy type video game Civilization VI.
This is the music I was listening to while writing Toward Home.
I highly recommend you listen to this wonderful American composer.
